Fourteen projects selected as finalists in Next Lab Generation 2023

The teasers produced by the finalists during the seven weeks of the workshop will be shown during the event. On March 4, an international jury will choose the best projects of the third edition, which will receive €8,000 in development aid, three months of mentoring, a travel grant and accreditation for the Annecy Festival 2023.

Just two weeks before the Next Lab Generation event, which will bring together for the third consecutive year in Madrid the most cutting-edge professionals in the use of new technologies in the production of animation and video games, we already know the finalists of the third edition of its workshop. In it, 20 animation projects have delved into the use of tools belonging to the virtual environment, to optimize both creative and productive processes.

Seven weeks after announcing the selected projects, the first phase ended, in which the projects worked with VR tools and video game rendering engines, advised by professionals from the sector. In this short period of time, the participants have had to learn the tools, have had tutorials and masterclasses with experts, and have produced in record time an unpublished teaser of their project. During the second phase, the fourteen finalists will have to prepare for the final stage of the call: the pitch in front of the jury.

On March 3rd and 4th, Espacio Rastro Madrid will host a series of conferences and networking sessions on the latest in innovation and new technologies in the world of animation and video games. Accreditations are available at Eventbrite until February 27th at 23:59h in Madrid or until full capacity is reached.

Due to the high quality of the projects and the work done during the workshop, fourteen participants will finally be selected as finalists in the second phase. Among those selected are the national production projects: Caregivers by Daniela Cuenca; El Cerrajero by Mauro Luis and Juan Torres; The Last Spitfire by Renato Roldán; Life in Dreams by Mario Caballero; Latente, by Carlos Zaragoza and Aurora Jiménez; LUCUS by David Fidalgo; Manolitos by Diego Porral and Joaquín Garralda; Puma_Blue by Noelia Muiño and The Wild Remains by Javier De La Chica.

Five international production projects complete the selection: the Argentina-Spain co-production Atalaya Tour by Ana Inés Flores; the Colombian projects LIMBO by Daniel Shambo and Where is my expresso? by Sebastian Garcia; from Chile we will have Los Alas Grises by Ernesto León; and finally the Italian project The Origin of Blindness by Emilia Gozzano.

On Saturday morning, March 4th, the finalists will present the Pitch of their projects, in which they will show the piece made during the workshop, as well as explain how the process and the progress experienced during the training has been. The event will conclude with the awards ceremony and the announcement of the winning projects of this edition, which will travel to Annecy MIFA 2023 and will have the opportunity to make themselves known during the Next Lab Generation conference. The complete program can be consulted on the event's website.
