After the success of its first edition in early 2021, where 7 animation projects made their teasers in record time and using new technologies, Next Lab opens the call for projects for the second edition of its workshop. An initiative that connects art and technology in the animation industry and digital content and that once again has the main sponsorship of the Community of Madrid through the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports.

Until next December 19th, proposals for all types of animation projects will be received, as well as real image projects with high animation or VFX content, regardless of the format. The proposals presented can be headed by a person or by a work team, and any nationality will be accepted. Registration is free through the event website.

The projects that will be selected from this call will receive advice on how to be produced, applying R+D+i and the latest technology. The workshop, given by various professionals and experts in the sector, will repeat the structure of the last edition with an online phase from January 10th to February 20th; and an in-person phase to be held in Madrid from February 21st to 24th.

A committee made up of professionals from the sector and representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Community of Madrid will assess the applications, which must present two high-quality images, as well as a project dossier where detailed information of the work appears (technical file, description of the project and characters, visual development ...) and a brief history of the participant.

The workshop will focus on the application of creative tools within the virtual environment to improve creative and productive processes, and the final result of this training will be an animated piece as a teaser for each project. In the subsequent event, which will be held on February 25th and 26th in Madrid in-person, each project will be presented and a jury will select the two winners who will be presented during Annecy MIFA 2022 and who will have a free accreditation.

One of the great novelties of this edition is the support from DeAPlaneta Entertainment (previously Planeta Junior), a leading European company in the creation and commercialization of entertainment for the whole family. Planeta Junior will select and support one of the animation projects participating in the Next Lab workshop to promote new ways of working in animation using disruptive technologies and support new creators. The project that obtains the DeAPlaneta Entertainment Award, in addition to participating in the Next Lab workshop, will have a complementary 3 months of mentoring with international experts to develop the IP in addition to a co-development contract worth € 6,000.

Next Lab 2022 has the main sponsorship of the Community of Madrid, through the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports; the sponsorship of DeAPlaneta Entertainment and the General Directorate of Cultural Industries, Intellectual Property and Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Sports; the collaboration of Enisa, Annecy Festival, ICAA and Weird Market; and the support of Tangram Solutions, HP, Welaw, Pixel Cluster Madrid, Clan VR and Real o Virtual.
